News: David Bryne is headed to Broadway with "American Utopia", opening at the Hudson Theatre in October following a run in Boston; critic's pick "My Fair Lady" (read my review) will close on July 7th; critic's pick "Oklahoma!" (read my review) will launch a national tour in 2020, and "Tootsie" (read my review) announced a national tour in 2020, a West End production in 2021, and additional international productions; Helen Hunt, Christopher Jackson, and Javier Muñoz will lead the cast for City Center Encores! Off Center's "Working"; and a stage musical of the beloved 1980s flick "Back to the Future" will premiere in Manchester in 2020 before a West End run
Development: Andrew Lloyd Webber's new "Cinderella" musical received an industry showcase in London this week; and Elton John and Jake Shears are working on another Tammy Faye Bakker bio-musical (David Yazbek and Robert Horn are writing one, too!)
Milestone: "The Lion King" welcomed its one hundred millionth audience member worldwide last week! And with $40M+ in box office receipts, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is now the highest grossing American play ever(bested only by "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child")
