Not fake news: "1984", the stage adaption of George Orwell's iconic novel that played on Broadway this past summer, will be ineligible for Tony Award consideration because the production reportedly barred journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, who is a member of the Tony nominating committee, from attending the show. Per the New York Times, "The awards rules require that producers invite all members of the Tony nominating committee - there are currently 49 - to a performance."
"Kiss Me, Kate", the classic Cole Porter musical, is headed back to Broadway in 2019 in a production mounted by the Roundabout Theatre Company, starring Kelli O'Hara as Lilli Vanessi; O'Hara played Lilli in a 2016 benefit concert for Roundabout opposite Will Chase as Fred Graham; no word yet on additional casting for this forthcoming production.
The Broadway League has announced new services for theatregoers with hearing and vision loss, including closed captioning and audio description assistance via mobile devices and headsets; these technologies will be rolled out in 2018 across all Broadway theatres.
